Givendale Stabilisers

The breed originates in the USA specifically the USDA Meat Animal Research Centre in Nebraska, who created a composite breed which consisted of 25% genetics from the South Devon, Angus, Simmental and Gelbvieh which proved to be the most profitable combination and selected to be the basis of the Stabiliser breed.

In 2001 the very first embryos of Stabiliser cattle were born in the UK at JSR’s Givendale farm in East Yorkshire. The breed has gone from strength to strength across the UK with the breed bosting many favourable traits highly sort after within beef farming including:

Docile in temperament
Early maturing; heifers ready to start calving at 2 years old
Easy calving
Feed efficient

Genetic improvements are good for the planet as animals use less energy and resources to grow into healthy, robust animals. The Stabiliser breed uses the best traits from four different breeds which we believe produces a heathy yet profitable herd.

At Givendale our multiplier suckler herd of Stabiliser cattle breeds bulls and heifers for sale to other producers, alongside producing high quality beef cattle for sale into the UK food supply chain.

Bulls

At Givendale we breed bulls for sale for other Stabiliser producers.

Stabiliser bulls are selected for performance, high fertility, good health and good feet, which enables a high cow to bull ratio. They are docile and polled, making them easy to manage.

All Givendale Stabiliser bulls are high health from our closed herd.

All bulls are semen tested before sale.

Stabiliser Cows

Our Stabiliser cows are excellent mothers and good producers of milk, helping their calves get the best start in life.

Their high fertility and good feed efficiency make them the centre of a profitable suckler herd.

Heifers

Givendale Stabiliser heifers are bred on our closed herd, high health farm. Compared to other breeds, a Stabiliser heifer will reach maturity earlier and can therefore be calved at two years of age.

Calves

Stabiliser calves thrive on our grassland farm at Givendale. With a low birth weight and high growth rate, they calve easily and hit all carcase specifications. Their easy nature means they are calm and easy to handle.
