JSR’s farms 3,000 hectares of productive land across the East Yorkshire Wolds.

We grow a diverse range of crops including wheat, barley, rye, oilseed rape, oats, vining peas, beans, and potatoes, using a carefully planned six-year rotation. This system not only supports soil health and biodiversity but also ensures consistent, high-quality yields.

By combining traditional farming knowledge with modern agronomy and technology, we aim to farm responsibly and efficiently for today and for future generations.

Cereal crops

Across the 3,000 ha of land farmed by JSR we grow a variety of cereal crops including; wheat, barley, oilseed rape, rye and oats. These are grown predominantly for animal feed and transported to our mill.

The six year rotation allows the crops to thrive whilst maintaining the soil's structure. Crop rotation reduces pest and disease pressures, aids soil structure by giving land time to recover, and ensures good land stays productive for generations to come.

This carefully managed rotation on the fertile, chalky soils of the Yorkshire Wolds means that we are capable of producing strong yields and good quality straw.

Peas

JSR are proud to be part of Swaythorpe Growers Ltd and have been growing top quality vining peas and beans for many years. Our peas can be found in shops across the UK under supermarket own label brands as well as being packaged under the Yorkshire Peas brand.

The fertile soils of the Yorkshire Wolds are ideal for growing peas which in turn contribute to soil health by naturally fixing nitrogen, reducing the need for synthetic fertilisers.

Potatoes

Seed potatoes are a key part of JSR’s cropping strategy, grown to high health standards and carefully managed to ensure excellent quality and consistency. Produced on land ideally suited to potato cultivation, our seed crops benefit from a well-structured rotation that supports soil health and minimises disease risk. Alongside seed, we also grow ware potatoes for the food supply chain.

In addition to growing potatoes, JSR provides climate-controlled storage facilities for both our own crops and those of third parties, ensuring potatoes are kept in optimal condition year-round.
