In 1958 our founder John Rymer purchased his first farm in the heart of East Yorkshire at a time when farming was more of a lifestyle than a business opportunity. John successfully applied his strong business principles from the start, and was also very skilled in utilizing the latest scientific developments. In the thirty eight year period that followed, he adopted his skill, knowledge and know-how to build, and grow a very successful modern farming business, based around his three core values:
Excellence in reputation, science based innovation and well-trained and effective people.
At JSR Farms, we continue to apply our core values to all aspects of the business with the following overview providing an insight into our integrated approach.
JSR operate a modern farming system and livestock form an integral part of the JSR portfolio.
We focus on environmentally aware and welfare orientated farming and both of these factors play an important part in the way we farm operate.
At JSR Farms, we grow a range of crops including winter wheat, winter barley, winter oilseed rape, vining peas, beans and potatoes based on a 6 year rotation across 4000 hectares over fourteen sites in East Yorkshire.
All the wheat and barley grown are used in the production of pig feed rations. Arable cultivation and harvesting are carried out using high output machinery including the use of satellite navigation systems to improve the accuracy of cultivations.
We regard conservation and the impact our farming activities have on the environment, as integral to managing the land we farm. The development of natural habitats is woven into our farming system to promote landscape and wildlife conservation. Keeping the environmental balance in credit has become our trademark and features strongly within the JSR ethos.
Significant areas within the JSR business are managed under various conservation and sustainability agreements to encourage the biodiversity of wildlife.
We have extensive facilities at JSR available to everyone including corporate clients or individuals looking for a relaxing break in the beautiful Wolds countryside.
